Reveal of Book Shelf and Before and After

This is the bookshelf where I create my own background. I got this bookshelf for free in Craigslist. I liked it because of the mini bar in which I converted to mini working area/office (sort of secretary desk). I am not fan of the dark color. I live in a townhouse with a small living and dining spaces. Placing a dark furniture like this will make my space looks crowded. So I decided to transform it.

First I prime it with Zinsser Primer-Sealer Water-Base. Notice I did not say sand it. Yes, I skip that. My dad said that this shelf is laminated/veneer. (I think you can also sand a laminated.) My technique is brush first all the corners and edges then use a foam roller for the rest. For small details, I used the small, tiny, pointy brush that you can buy in the dollar store.  I prime it twice.

Next, I painted it with my leftover paint. I painted twice. Let it dry.

Lastly, I used my leftover Winwax Polycrylic Clear Semi-Gloss.

Here's it came out. I got to excited and placed my stuff. Notice the knobs? I spray painted the knobs with Rust-Oleum Aqua in Satin. The chrome (first bottom drawer) are left over from my kitchen cabinets which I was trying to see what it looks like. I decided to use the spray painted one. Then I looked carefully and I feel like it's too blank.

I got an inspiration to Rachel from Southern Exposure on what she did in her dining room cabinet. She placed Imperial Trellis wallpaper in the background.

Here's what I did with mine. It's not a wallpaper but I made it to look like a wallpaper. HERE is the tutorial of the Quatrefoil background.

Look at the closer view.
Again, the before and after photo.

Here's with my stuff.

And another topic, don't miss out! I am hosting a giveaway. Enter for a chance to win a My Memories Suite v4 Software. A great digital scrapbooking software. Here's the link.
